Who are we?
The Groupe d’action antiraciste en orthophonie et en audiologie (GAAROA), or Anti-Racism Action Group in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology is a collective of speech-language pathologists and audiologists who feel the need to take action to address the ongoing and ever-present problems of systemic racism in our society.
Mission
Raise awareness among members of our professional order (OOAQ) and their partners in the health and education sectors about the ongoing and harmful effects of systemic racism on Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) in Quebec.
Vision
Promote best practices, in the hope that they will be integrated into the daily practice of speech-language pathology and audiology.
Our values
-

EQUITY
In decisions and actions that affect everyone. We want access to university education and services to be equitable for BIPOC.
-

RESPONSABILITY
To uphold their commitments and take responsibility for the impact of their actions on individuals receiving speech-language and audiology services. We hope to raise individual and collective awareness of the consequences of systemic racism on BIPOC people.
-

KNOWLEDGE
Of best practices to guide decisions in speech-language pathology and audiology care. We want the professional community and partner institutions to implement best practices that take into account the reality of BIPOC people.
-

ACCESSIBILITY
For everyone to have access to suitable, personalized, appropriate, and high-quality services. We want these services to be equally accessible to BIPOC people.
