Our story
The Anti-Racism Advocacy Group in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (Groupe d'Action AntiRaciste en Orthophonie et en Audiologie - GAAROA) is a collective of speech-language pathologists and audiologists who feel a need for action to address the ongoing and ever present issues of systemic racism in our society.
Mission
To raise awareness particularly amongst members of our professional order (OOAQ) as well as their partners in the fields of health and education in Quebec about the constant and harmful effects of systemic racism on people from Black, Indigenous and racialized communities (BI&R) .
Vision
To promote best practices so that they will be integrated into the daily practice of speech-language pathology and audiology.
Our Values
Équité
Accessibility
ACCESSIBILITY for all to adapted, personalized, adequate and quality services.
We wish that these services are also accessible for all BI&R people.
RESPONSIBILITY from professionals to keep their commitments and assume the scope of their actions towards people who receive speech therapy and audiology services.
We would like there to be individual and collective awareness of the consequences of systemic racism on the BI&R communities.
Responsibility
Responsabilité
Equity
EQUITY in the decisions and actions that are taken for all.
We hope that access to university training and the services provided will be fair for BI&R people.
Knowledge
KNOWLEDGE of best practices to guide decisions in speech therapy and audiology.
We would like the professional community and its partner institutions to put in place best practices that take into account the reality of BI&R communities.
